Chandigarh, December 19

In the wake of a goose testing positive for bird flu in the city this week, here is a caution from health experts to those who love half-baked chicken and eggs.

According to experts, esidents should shun those extra protein values in their diet coming in from half-baked chicken used in sandwiches, pizzas, burgers or even the seasoned chicken snacks served in various restaurants in the city.

Even roasted chicken should be avoided for a few days, said experts. “The food should be cooked above the temperature of 70 degrees. This means the chicken or eggs should be fully boiled or cooked. One should prefer eating at home till the threat is ruled out completely,”said Dr Gopal Bhardwaj, head, Department of Internal Medicine, GMSH-16. Some people prefer having half-baked omelettes or scrambled eggs even at home. But that should be avoided, he added. Food cooked in microwave oven is safest to eat.

Homage paid to culled geese

Member of the Environment Society of India and some other NGOs housed in the Karuna Sadan, Sector 11, Chandigarh, paid  homage to the geese and ducks culled at Sukhna Lake due to suspected bird flu, claimed NK Jhingan, secretary general of the society.
