SHO among 2 cops killed in Maoist ambush

RAIPUR: A station house officer (SHO) and an assistant constable were killed and six other security personnel, including an assistant commandant of BSF, injured when Maoists ambushed a joint patrolling team in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Kanker district today, the police said.

A station house officer (SHO) and an assistant constable were killed and six other security personnel, including an assistant commandant of BSF, injured when Maoists ambushed a joint patrolling team in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Kanker district today, the police said.

A group of armed rebels opened indiscriminate fire on a joint team of security personnel while they were conducting patrolling at Paralkot village (PV) number 101 under Bande police station limits, said IG (intelligence wing) Deepanshu Kabra.

The squad of district force and Border Security Force (BSF) was conducting patrolling in Bande region, located around 250 km away from the state capital. When they reached at PV 101, rebels opened fire on them, leaving an SHO and an assistant constable dead on the spot, he said.

Those killed were identified as Bande police station SHO, Avinash Sharma and assistant constable Sonu, the IG said. Six others, including three BSF personnel, were injured in the incident. — PTI
