“Ghar Aaja Jeetu”, an independent Punjabi film based on a real life story of a drug addict will be screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival, accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Association. The festival which started from November 14 will continue till November 21. It has been dedicated to women filmmakers in the competition categories and will feature films made by women directors internationally.

The film “Ghar Aaja Jeetu” will be screened under the Indian select language section on the concluding day. Traveling with his film, Dr Jaswinder Gandhi, will also be speaking as a special guest at the panel discussion. “It’s a matter of pride for me that the film about drug and substance abuse is getting such international acclaim. I’ll be addressing the issue and core theme of the film at the festival and hope to capture the attention towards working out a solution to the drug abuse problem,” said Dr Gandhi.

The film has already garnered international attention by winning Award of Merit at the International Film Festival in Jakarta and Brasov International Film. Gandhi has also been awarded the Silver Award for best filmaker at the festival in Indonesia. Having made it into big league with his humble beginning, Dr Gandhi now plans to conceive more ideas for independent projects. He says, “It takes time and finances, so nothing can happen immediately. But I’ll definitely continue my creative endeavour to capture social issue through my stories.”

The film has been shortlisted for screening at the Indian International Film Festival, Toronto, and has been selected for introduction under the training and rehabilitation programmes by the government-sponsored Muktangan Centres (drug de-addiction centres) in the western region. It will also be a part of Delhi International Film Festival and Lake City International Film Festival, Bhopal, in the coming months.
