‘Godwoman’ among two held for rape

The Maqboolpura police have arrested a ‘godwoman’ and her brother on the charges of raping a minor girl. Those arrested were identified as Sarabjit Kaur, alias Baba, and her brother, Raju, of the Maqboolpura area. They were booked under Sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).

The victim’s mother stated to the police that she had been visiting Sarabjit Kaur for the past three years. Sarabjit Kaur said that she was handicap and requested her to leave her 13-year-old daughter with her for help. She alleged that Sarabjit’s brother, Raju, who was also living with her for the past several months sexually abused her daughter. She alleged that her daughter was being raped by the accused for the past one month with the help of his sister.

Gurbinder Singh, SHO, Maqboolpura police station, said following the complaint, the police registered a case against the two suspects and further investigations were underway. He said a medical examination of the girl was also being conducted. — TNS
