A total of 118 polling stations in the city have been identified as hypersensitive while 156 polling stations are declared as sensitive out of 366 polling stations being set up in 85 wards for the upcoming Municipal Corporation polls in the city.
In view of this, the local police authorities have made elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order and maintain peaceful atmosphere during polls in the holy city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and order, Amrik Singh Pawar said, “Special emphasis is given to the wards and areas where hyper sensitive and sensitive polling stations are located. Already, the city police have made elaborate security arrangements in view on the upcoming civic polls. Nearly, 1000 cops from Punjab Armed Police (PAP) and Punjab police training centres have been summoned for this purpose. The police have installed over 40 permanent nakas in various parts of the city to keep a close eye on the anti-social elements. Patrolling police parties are patrolling in different areas at regular intervals.”
He said the police is committed to maintain law and order in the city during the elections.
