Employees working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (MGNREGA) in the district started their indefinite protest on Wednesday. They said they hadn’t received their salary for the last 18 months.

The agitating employees gathered in front of the office of the ADC (Development) under the leadership of Baljit Singh, district president of the MGNREGA Employees’ Union. Women employees were also present.

Baljit Singh along with other leaders, including Gursab Singh and Hardeep Singh, addressing the gathering. They said it was only Tarn Taran in the state where the employees hadn’t got their salaries for 18 months. They said they had been facing acute financial problems.

The leaders threatened that they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not met. The work being undertaken under the MGNREGA scheme have been affected.
