Amritsar, June 23

Three more snatching incidents were reported with the Police Department in the past 24 hours.

A snatcher was arrested in one of the cases while investigations were on in the remaining two.

Three unknown persons snatched a mobile phone from Kanwaldip Kaur, who works in the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here. She lives in a PG accommodation on Majitha Road.

She stated to the police that on June 21 evening, she was taking a stroll near Dukh Niwaran Gurdwara with her friend when three boys with shorn hair snatched her mobile.

The Sadar police have registered a case under Sections 379-B and 34, IPC, in this regard.

In another snatching incident, the Chheharta police arrested Chamkor Singh, a resident of Khapar Kheri village, for allegedly snatching an expensive mobile phone from a local resident, Mamta Mehra.

Though the incident occurred on April 12 evening, a case was registered only yesterday after the arrest of the accused. Mehra stated to the police that she was returning home and reading a message on her phone when the accused snatched her phone.

Meanwhile, the Chheharta police booked Vikas Kumar alias Kala of Harkrishan Nagar on Kale Road in a mobile-snatching case. Complainant Dhiraj Kumar said that on June 19 he along with his father was returning home after closing down his cigarette kiosk when the accused snatched his mobile phone near Janta Girls School.

Police Commissioner SS Srivastava said plans had been chalked out to scale down the snatching instances. He said the previous records of the snatchers and repeated offenders were also being looked into.
