The Social Welfare Society gave away ‘Maan Dhiyan Da’ awards to 400 meritorious girl students and women achievers of varied fields in the city. Marking this year’s theme of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, the event also gave a platform to speak against the menace of female feoticide. Wrestler Navjot Kaur was given the ‘Maan Punjab Da’ award, while sportsperson Ruby Malhotra and Aanam Sandhu were also awarded for their achievements. Actor Deepali and child actor Saysha were also honoured.
GNDU Prof Roopam Dhillon received the award in the field of academics. Social activist Gurjit Kaur was also honoured. Gurinder Singh Mattu, convener of the award, congratulated the winners and encouraged the girls to keep performing better. ADCP Gautam Taura was the chief guest.
