Victims of a job scam who were fleeced by a person from Tarn Taran on the pretext of providing them jobs in the Municipal Corporation (MC) have been demanding registration of a police case against the dubious job provider. The victims led by Harjit Singh and Jugraj Singh met local Congress leaders and demanded action in the case. They said they were unhappy with the role of MC officials who were allegedly not making any effort to nab the accused, who issued fake ID cards and job agreements by using the name of senior officials of the MC.

Harjit Singh, a victim, who was ‘recruited’ for the job of verification in the Horticulture Department, said,“We met Congress leader Raj Kumar Verka and demanded to register a criminal case against the accused. A complaint had been filed at the Police Commissioner’s office last week, but no action was taken till date. The accused, Sukhwinder Singh Raju and his family members, are roaming freely and threatening the victims”.

Repeated attempts to contact Sukhwiner Singh Raju, who allegedly duped 46 persons, failed, as his mobile phone was switched off.

“All 46 victims belong to economically weaker sections. They paid Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh to get jobs in the MC. Most of them had worked with the MC staff from one year to six months. They are also demanding their monthly salaries. The police should book the fraudsters and recover our money,” said Jugraj Singh, another victim.

As many as 46 persons including six women were ‘recruited’ on the post of gardeners in the Horticulture Department of the MC in 2016 and they used to work in various gardens of the city. The victims alleged that Sukhwinder Singh alias Raju of Kajikot village of Tarn Taran fleeced them. He provided them fake ID cards.
