The CIA staff of Amritsar has seized yet another haul of illicit liquor manufactured from alcohol and arrested two persons in this connection. Three of their accomplices managed to escape from the spot.
The police impounded two vehicles and 875 litres of illicit liquor from their possession.
Those arrested were identified as Manjinder Singh, son of Sukhwinder Singh of Kot Khehra village, and Manpreet Singh, son of Lakhwinder Singh of Tarsikka. The missing persons were Gurpinder Singh alias Govinda, Harpreet Singh alias Happy and Gurbhej Singh of Mian Pandher village.
Harpal Singh Randhawa, SP (detective), Amritsar rural police, said the CIA staff intercepted two goods carriers from Rasulpur Kallar village at a naka. The police team found 25 cans of illicit liquor which was prepared from industrial concentrated alcohol.
“The liquor manufactured in this way is very injurious and sometimes fatal for consumers,” he said.
Investigations revealed that the accused used to provide alcohol at some dhabas. From one can, they used to prepare four cans of liquor by mixing water, he said.
The police have registered a case under the Excise Act and on charge of cheating against the accused and further investigations were on to identify the persons who used to provide them with alcohol.
Since the police have kept a vigil on anti-social elements, especially drug peddlers, several arrests have been made recently. The police crackdown has sent shivers down smugglers’ spine.
