AMRITSAR: The Municipal Corporation has installed Aadhaar-linked biometric attendance machines at its head office. Employees marked their attended through the machines on Tuesday. They registered their thumb impressions on Monday.

The Municipal Corporation has installed Aadhaar-linked biometric attendance machines at its head office. Employees marked their attended through the machines on Tuesday. They registered their thumb impressions on Monday.

MC officials said the biometric machines would curb the practice of furlough and resident would get services more affectively at the MC head office.

The state government has made it compulsory for several government departments, including the Education Department, to mark the attendance through biometric machines.

The civic body has purchased 10 biometric machines at a cost of Rs 35,000. Initially, the MC has installed the biometric machines at its head office. Later, these will be installed at the zonal offices as well. The machines are linked with the Aadhaar of employees, eliminating the possibility of forge attendance. The employees have to punch the machine twice a day.
