An anonymous person, in an email sent to The Tribune and GNDU Vice Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu, has raised questions over the appointment of an acting principal of a constituent college of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) in Mukandpur. The sender has questioned the appointment over certain parameters and also the acting principal’s “past record for harassing the staff” under him.

It is worth mentioning here that Dr Gurjant Singh, whose appointment has been questioned, has held the position of acting principal for the same institute in 2011 as well after the retirement of the regular principal.

As per the email, Dr Gurjant Singh was appointed acting principal on February 1, 2018 after the retirement of the regular principal. The sender talks about the seniority list for such promotions and also attached along with the email a list of complaints made during his tenure in 2011.

The sender of the email also suggests the names of the teachers who have suffered because of the attitude of the acting principals.

When contacted, Dr Gurjant Singh said, “I have no idea about this complaint. I have neither received the complaint nor read it. The appointment has to be made by the university. I cannot comment before reading the mail.”

Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor, Guru Nank Dev University, said, “Yes, I have received the complaint. As per the Central Government rule, we cannot act on the basis of anonymous emails or complaints. If there is an issue, I will request the sender to send it with his or her name and meet me. The university is absolutely fair.”

Commenting about the appointment, he said Dr Gurjant Singh had been assigned the role of an acting principal. “We will issue advertisement to appoint a regular principal,” he added.

What the email states?

  • The email, sent to The Tribune as well as the GNDU VC, questions appointment of acting principal of a GNDU constituent college in Mukandpur.
  • He/she lists a number of complaints made against him in 2011.
