Amritsar, September 22

The district transport department has received good response for its online acceptance of applications for the learner’s licence. The service was introduced on September 18 without much fanfare. Residents have hailed the move.

The move is aimed at erasing the role of middle men and expected to usher in more transparency in the system.

Officials say the applicants subsequently will receive the date and time of appointment for driving test.

Thirty days after receiving the learner’s licence, an applicant can apply for a permanent licence. The move will minimise the interaction between applicants and officials.
