Barren land turned into park

AMRITSAR: Approximately 300 decorative plants, including de-toxifying saplings, were planted in Fatehpur Rajputan village of Jandiala Guru block.

Amritsar, June 12

Approximately 300 decorative plants, including de-toxifying saplings, were planted in Fatehpur Rajputan village of Jandiala Guru block. A beautiful cemented tile track has been constructed around the park for walkers. Sarpanch Tarsem Singh said the land, under the park, was earlier a piece of useless land inundated with sewager, causing the spread of diseases in the village. The initiative has rejuvenated the same land and transformed the entire village.

The park under the MGNREGA scheme was set up to serve as a lighthouse for other villages, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Ravinder Singh. “Deforestation has increased the pollution. It has led to global warming so there is a need to plant trees and construct environmental parks in villages under the MGNREGA.”

BDPO (Jandiala Guru) Bhagwan Singh said such development works were going on in rural areas. — TNS
