Former councillor and BJP (urban) general secretary Manav Taneja allegedly thrashed a person, identified as Jaskaran Singh, over a minor issue of parking a vehicle here today.. Jaskaran sustained an injury on his face while the police have initiated investigations in this connection.

Jaskaran, a resident of the Putlighar area, along with his wife and two minor children had gone to the Lawrence Road area and had parked his car near Bhai Vir Singh Hall in the Lawrence Road area. His wife Mandeep Kaur said Taneja came on his vehicle, started blowing the horn and asked Jaskaran to move his car.

Jaskaran told him that he had already parked his car on the roadside and a motorcycle was parked before his car. Therefore, he could not move his car. This led to heated arguments between the two. Mandeep alleged that Taneja came out of his vehicle and pulled Jaskaran out of the car and thrashed him along with his accomplices. She alleged that nobody came to save him while she was pleading with him to leave him. She alleged that a PCR team also came to the spot and left the scene after seeing Taneja on the other side.

Meanwhile, the Lawrence Road police reached the spot and took both the victim and Taneja to the chowki. In the meanwhile, district BJP president Rajesh Honey also reached the chowki and allegedly created a scene. They allegedly pressurised the police and the victim to reach a compromise. Jaskaran was later taken to the Civil Hospital for a medical examination.

Taneja on the other hand alleged that it was Jaskaran who had used abusive language against him, which led to the scuffle.

SHO, Civil Lines police, Joga Singh said he had received the complaint and action would be taken accordingly. Police Commissioner G Nageshwara Rao said that nobody is allowed to take law into their hands. He said the matter came to his knowledge and appropriate action would be taken against the person who is found to be guilty.
