AMRITSAR: The local police booked an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM), Kuldeep Kaur, and her son Harshdeep for assault on Saturday. Complainant Bavi told the police that the Health Department had asked Kuldeep to vacate her government accommodation.



AMRITSAR: The local police booked an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM), Kuldeep Kaur, and her son Harshdeep for assault on Saturday. Complainant Bavi told the police that the Health Department had asked Kuldeep to vacate her government accommodation. Kuldeep suspected that the action had been taken on the complaint of Bavi. “Kuldeep hurled abuses at me. She held me by my hair and her son thrashed me with a baseball bat. When I raised the alarm, they locked me in their house and fled,” she said. The police have registered a case under Sections 323, 325, 506 and 34 of the IPC. No arrest has been made so far. TNS

Travel agents booked for fraud

Tarn Taran: Five “fake” travel agents have been booked by Chohla Sahib police for defrauding a villager of Rs 16 lakh. They took the money from Sikanderjit Singh of Bhathal Sehja Singh village promising to send him to France. The accused have been identified as Patiala-based Govin Garg, Mast Ram, Deep Arora,  Dasuha (Hoshiarpur) resident Jagdev Singh and Lovepreet Singh. The complainant said they had taken the money from him four years ago but they neither sent him to France nor returned the money. The matter was probed by SP (investigation) following which a case was registered under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC. OC

Hookah bar owner booked

Amritsar: The Civil Lines police have booked an owner of a bar for allegedly serving hookah to teenagers. The accused has been identified as Arundeep Singh, who runs Mela Bar and Restaurant in the posh Ranjit Avenue. The administration has banned the serving of hookah but the illegal practice has been going on. A case has been registered against him. Such cases have been reported in the past. The police said the case was registered following a tip-off that the accused served hookahs laced with tobacco or other prohibited materials to teenage boys and girls. They said an investigation was under way. A case under Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice and Protection of Children Act, Sections 4 and 6-B of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, and 188 of the IPC has been registered against him.
