The Amritsar rural police today claimed to have solved the blind murder case in which a bus driver was shot dead by several armed persons on July 22.

The police have arrested a notorious gangster, identified as Sikander Singh, son of Kunan Singh of Guru Ka Khuh, in the case while raids were on to arrest his two accomplices.

They were identified as Bhupinder Singh alias Bhinda, a don of Pandori Waraich village, and Sohan Lal of Chathu Mohalla in Patti.

Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar rural police, said several unidentified persons pummeled a private bus driver, Gurvinder Singh Sabi of Thatha village, before shooting him dead over a minor issue of giving them side.

The incident occurred on the Amritsar-Fatehgarhchurian road on July 22.

According to details, as the bus belonging to Baba Buddha Bus Service owned by a senior Akali leader reached the Fatehgarh Churian road, a speeding Maruit Swift car started blaring its horn seeking passage.

However, due to traffic, he could not give way to the car. Irked over this, the occupants of the car immediately stopped the car before the bus after overtaking it. This brought the bus to a halt. The accused pulled Sabi out and thrashed him before taking out a firearm and shooting him, leaving him critically injured.

The horrified passengers raised the alarm and informed the police while the accused fled, firing in the air. The police took the victim to Guru Nanak Dev hospital where he succumbed to the gunshot injury the next day.

The SSP said the police took technical support to identify the culprits and later arrest them.

He said the accused were wanted in many criminal cases including attempt to murder, snatching, arms and offences under the NDPS Act registered in various parts of Punjab. They were also booked in Ludhiana in an arms case.
