Sukhdev Singh Chahal, who has got the mandate of people to be the councillor of Ward No. 76 in the recently held Municipal Corporation elections, has been in the political arena for 10 years. He has been contesting the elections since 2007 and elected for the third time. He says apart from ensuring basic facilities, he will vie for the beautification of the ward as well.

Earlier, he used to contest on behalf of the BJP. This time, he sided with the Congress for the MC polls. He is said to be a confidant of Minister for Local Bodies Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Areas such as Kabir Park, Mohani Park, Vikas Colony, Guru Har Rai Avenue, New Dashmesh Nagar, King Avenue, Harnam Singh Nagar, Sarkaria Colony, Sandhu Colony, Harkrishan Nagar, Ram Singh Colony, King Enclave, Surta Singh Chowk, Khoo Nihangan , Awadh Nagar, New Kabir Park, Preet Vihar, New Model Town, Sugar Mill quarters, Amar Avenue, Akaash Avenue, OCM quarters and Motyan Da Dera come under this ward.

Chahal said residents were getting potable water and the ward had a proper sewerage system. He said streets in the ward were in a good condition.

However, contrary to his claims, residents often complain of contaminated water.

Chahal said, “The pipes of potable water were laid years ago. To raise the level of roads and streets, we recarpeted them. Now, the pipes are several feet down. Private communication companies damaged the pipes while laying wires in the area. The issue of contaminated water is needed to be addressed.”

Talking about his poll promises, Chahal said he had been serving the area for the past 10 years. He assured the residents that he would work for the beautification of the ward.

“The roads and streets are in a good condition. Now, I will beautify the area. Stray dogs and pigs are creating a nuisance in the area. We will make concrete efforts to deal with the problem of stray animals,” he added.
