The Jallianwala Bagh Martyrs’ Memorial Civil Hospital (JBMM) would soon be equipped with a solar plant to produce electricity which would be used for powering the hospital.

The hospital authorities said that as a part of the Smart City project, solar power plants would be installed at various institutions and a Mumbai-based company had already signed a memorandum with the Health Department for that.

As per the conditions, the hospital would pay Rs 4 per unit for the electricity consumed from the solar plant. The officials stated that at present they were paying around Rs 6 per unit to the power corporation.

Though the hospital has a hotline of electricity in view of its consumption needs, the new solar plant would also help the institution save money which it is paying in lieu of such services.

The hospital authorities said that the expenses to install and run the solar plant would be borne by the company. The solar panels would be installed at the rooftop of the hospital building.

Senior Medical Officer Dr Rajinder Arora said the company representatives had already inspected the site. He said that the department was expected to sign the agreement in the coming weeks.
