Amritsar, March 30
After a sensational jail break attempt at Gurdaspur, a group of jail inmates allegedly thrashed three fellow prisoners in the Amritsar central jail here, though the situation was soon brought under control by the alert staff.
Jail authorities termed the incident as a planned way to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the central jail. The incident occurred on Monday morning while a case was registered only late last evening.
Jail Superintendent Ashish Kapoor has lodged a complaint with the Gate Hakima police in this connection, which registered a case under Section 323, IPC, and 42 Prisoners Act against five inmates. They were identified as Sajan alias Daddu, Surjit Singh, son of Mukhtiar Singh, Hardik, son of Dalbir Singh, Rajesh Kumar, son of Paramjit Singh, and Love, son of Laxman Singh, and Babbu, son of Nirmal Singh.
Kapoor said the accused had formed a gang and entered into a verbal duel with the opposite group a few days ago. However, with the intervention of the jail staff, both the groups were separated. He said on Monday, finding an opportunity, the Daddu group suddenly attacked others including Rahul, son of Dev Raj, Lovepreet, son of Lakhwinder, and Deepak, son of Baldev Singh. He alleged the attempt was to vitiate the peaceful environment on the jail premises.
The security has been tightened inside the high-security jail complex following the sensational jail break incident at Gurdaspur. “We are on alert and no one would be allowed to create a law and order situation inside the jail,” said Kapoor. The jail housed a number of notorious gangsters, smugglers and foreign nationals.
