Clean water tanks, say residents

AMRITSAR: Residents of employees’ quarters at Government Medical College have complained that water tanks at tube wells have not been cleaned for a long time.

Amritsar, July 20

Residents of employees’ quarters at Government Medical College have complained that water tanks at tube wells have not been cleaned for a long time. “Chlorine meant for water treatment is also not being used as the water supply department is indifferent to the health hazards,” they said.

Gurcharan Singh, a family member of an employee, said, “The water tanks have not been cleaned for a long time. Drinking contaminated water can make people sick.”

Residents said that there were a dozen tube well connections being managed by the water supply and sanitation department.

Another resident, Darshan Lal, said, “The department is required to put chlorine in these tanks to treat water but it is not being done. The water being supplied to us is not fit for drinking.” — TNS
