The sample reports of the Food Testing Laboratory at Chandigarh has found soft drinks of a multinational brand unsafe for human consumption. Foreign matter was found in drinks during tests.

The District Health Department had earlier collected samples of “Slice” brand from a shop at Joshi Colony near Khalsa College for Women on October 29 last year. Prior to this, few local residents, who had purchased soft drinks from the shop had complained of floating foreign matter in the soft drink bottles.

The test report of the food analysts’ states: “The contents of the sample contain a black and white coloured ‘jala’ like foreign matter. Hence it is unsafe for human consumption.”

District Health Officer, Dr Shivkaran Singh Kahlon, said, “We have received the reports and started the further proceedings.” He said the shopkeeper had been asked to send second samples of the product if he wanted to get them examined.

He said the shopkeeper had been given a month’s time to send the samples for re-examination. As per procedure, the Health Department collects four samples of the same product for testing. Only one sample has been tested. The remaining three are lying with the department.
