College girl molested, kin thrashed

AMRITSAR: The rural police have booked a youth for allegedly trying to disrobe and molest a college student. The incident came to light when she complained to the police after the accused allegedly thrashed her uncle and brother who went to his house to complain about this.

The rural police have booked a youth for allegedly trying to disrobe and molest a college student. The incident came to light when she complained to the police after the accused allegedly thrashed her uncle and brother who went to his house to complain about this.

The incident occurred on Thursday but the complaint was lodged yesterday. The accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh and his father Gurnam Singh of Chhiddan village.

The victim told the police that she was returning home from her college at around 4 pm on Thursday. She alighted from a bus at the village bus stand when the accused turned up and caught hold of her. 

According to her, he resorted to indecency and when she opposed, he threatened to throw acid. He also threatened to upload her videos on social networking sites if she told anything to her family members, she said.

She narrated the ordeal to her family members after reaching home. “My uncle and brother went to the accused’s residence to complain about it but the accused thrashed them following which my uncle was admitted to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for treatment,” she said.

The police said raids were on to arrest the accused who had been evading arrest since the victim lodged a complaint with the police.

A case under Sections 354-B, 341 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused, the police said.


15-year-old raped

Amritsar: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a resident of Kallewal village a few days ago. The father of the victim told the police that his daughter had gone to the fields to answer the nature’s call in the wee hours when the accused, Manga Singh, forcibly took her to a tube well room in Dhupsadi village and raped her. The incident occurred on March 13. He said he along with his wife had gone to Jalandhar for some work at that time. He said when they returned, the victim informed them about it, following which a police complaint was lodged. Charan Singh, investigating officer, said a case under Section 376 of the IPC had been registered against the accused and raids were on to arrest him. Woman molested in Malmohri

Tarn Taran: Badal Singh Baju of Malmohri village, 15 km from here, has been booked for allegedly molesting a woman of the same village. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Simarjit Kaur, investigating officer, said the incident occurred four days ago and the case was reported on Friday. The accused tresspassed the house of the victim at night and molested her. The accused escaped from the spot when the woman raised the alarm. The accused is at large. A case under Section 354 of the IPC has been registered, the police said, adding that efforts were being made to arrest the accused to bring them to justice. OC
