Mohan Singh Mohawa, freedom fighter and renowned communist leader, was remembered at a function at his native village, Mohawa, here today. Communist leaders and local residents paid tributes to him.

Mohawa had participated in the freedom movement of Goa. He also remained senior vice president of the SGPC. The function was presided over by Baba Arjan Singh Hushiarnagar, Gurdev Singh Mohawa and Virsa Singh Mohawa.

The event was organised by the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India.

Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala, president, Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, said the simple life of Mohawa was a role model for the present day leaders. He said Mohan Singh worked for the betterment of the country throughout his life but never ever thought of making anything for himself and his family.

Rattan Singh Randhawa, a well-known leader of farmers, said Mohawa always raised his voice for people, especially farmers, who face hardships in tilling their lands situated on the international border.
