Communists burn Modi’s effigy

Hundreds of workers of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the CPM organised a joint convention against the “anti-people” policies of the Union Government here on Wednesday. They also held a march in the town and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Activists of the women’s wings of both the parties took part in the protest.

The protesters accused the Central Government of failing to come up with a solution to the problems being faced by the people. They said that the government, instead of talking about development, had been fuelling communal tension.

Harbhajan Singh, state executive member of the CPI, and Major Singh Darajke, district secretary of the CPM, while addressing the gathering, reminded the Prime Minister of the government’s promise to waive the loans of the farmers. Prithipal Singh Magimegha, Devinder Sohal and Heera Singh Kandianwala along with others addressed the protesters.

‘Govt pro-capitalist’

Amritsar: Activists of the CPI and the CPI (M) organised a protest at Company Bagh here against the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre on Wednesday. The agitators were led by Amarjit Singh Asal, Amrik Singh, Lakhbir Singh Nijampura, Vijay Kapoor and others.

They said the BJP had failed to come up with a solution to the problems being faced by people. Amarjit Singh Asal said, “The gap between the poor and the rich has increased in the recent years due to the government’s pro-capitalist policy.”

The protesters said education had become “unaffordable” for the common masses as they couldn’t pay huge fee to institutions.

They also criticised the government for no cap on private hospitals who had been charging “exorbitantly” in the absence of appropriate facilities at government hospitals. — TNS
