Amritsar, November 22

Various companies have signed MoUs worth Rs 30,000 crore with the state government since the Industrial Policy 2017 was unveiled, said Commerce and Industries Director DPS Kharbanda.

Addressing the city-based industrialists during an interactive session organized by the Focal Point Industries Association (FPIA) in association with the Federation of Indian Exporter Organization (FIEO) here today, he called upon entrepreneurs to thoroughly go through the incentives being offered by the government for the existing and the new industries.

He said the policy envisaged rebate from property tax, revenue fee, GST and other taxes for industry.

“The Union Government is offering a cluster scheme under which a group of at least 20 entrepreneurs could get a support of Rs 13.50 crore in case they collectively invest Rs 1.50 crore to set up an industry. They could also be released a piece of land on lease for 15 years.”

He said 5 per cent subsidy would be provided to the industries of the border and the Kandi areas.

In order to address the grievances and disputes of traders, a district-level committee under the Deputy Commissioner has been formed to resolve these issues locally.

He asked officials of his department to prepare a report of the proposed necessary facilities for ESI dispensary, fire brigade, power sub-station and others at the old Focal Point, as plots were already earmarked there.

He said the government constituted the Punjab Skill Development Mission Nodal Agency, which will open multi-skill centres in all districts to provide the latest know-how to students to make them employable.

He was accompanied by heads of various other departments who briefed entrepreneurs on new schemes.

They said businessmen following norms of these schemes, which envisage environment-friendly industries could enjoy benefits and subsidies promised under these. Among others, host FPIA office-bearers Kamal Dalmia, Darshan Singh Goraya, a Congress and business leader Ranjan Aggarwal, Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal president PL Seth and others also addressed the gathering.
