Conference on rheumatology update at PIMS

JALANDHAR: The Medicine Department of Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Jalandhar, is organising a conference on “Rheumatology update” tomorrow on the campus of the health institution.

The Medicine Department of Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Jalandhar, is organising a conference on “Rheumatology update” tomorrow on the campus of the health institution. It will be a special occasion as for the first time Dr An Malviya, father of rheumatology, his team of adult and paediatric rheumatologists and orthopaedicians will also speak on the occasion.

They will share their experiences in the field and highlight findings of the latest research in the field of rheumatology among delegates present on the occasion.

Dr HL Kazal, professor and head, Medicine Department, emphasized on the importance of update programme on rheumatology to be held at the PIMS.

He said, “Such diseases are common and not well maintained due to lack of knowledge. Common diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus and vasculitis are not properly diagnosed.”

“Patients suffering from such diseases do not know whom they should consult. Most of the time they are given steroids by quacks. Improper treatment of these diseases increases suffering of patients.”

Dr Amarjit Singh said, “There is need to increase awareness of rheumatological diseases to ensure speedy and efficient recovery of patients.”
