AMRITSAR: While the Central Government has been celebrating the first anniversary of the Goods and Service Tax, the Congress, led by Amritsar MLA and spokesman of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Raj Kumar Verka, held an agitation at Kitchlew Chowk on Sunday.

While the Central Government has been celebrating the first anniversary of the Goods and Service Tax, the Congress, led by Amritsar MLA and spokesman of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Raj Kumar Verka, held an agitation at Kitchlew Chowk on Sunday. An effigy of the Goods and Services Tax was also burnt.

Congress workers and leaders raised slogans against the BJP-led Central Government. They said the government’s move had ruined small traders.

The Centre implemented the GST in a hurry and traders had been still facing troubles in filing returns, the protesters said.

He said traders were perturbed as it took months to understand the calculations of the GST while e-way bill had created another hurdle for them, he pointed out. He said the GST has broken the back of small traders and manufactures. The cycle trade is nearing shutdown in the country.
