Just days after finding a solution, the problem of water contamination has cropped up again in Guru Arjan Dev Nagar area near Putlighar.

Residents are getting dirty water emanating foul smell. They have again complained to the Municipal Corporation authorities to look into the issue as contaminated water was taking its toll on the health of people. Many residents have complained about stomach problems.

Officials of the Municipal Corporation said the water was getting dirty due to mixing with sewage.

“Though it was cleared last time, the same problem has come up again. Our officials are on the job and visited the area today,” they said.

Ravneet Kaur, a resident of the area, said, “We are forced to buy water bottles from the market. It has become too difficult for us. It wastes a lot of our time.”

Another resident Jasbir Singh, a government employee, said even the RO systems installed in houses are not of much use as the foul smell still emanates from water.

“The stench is unbearable when we turn on the tap. It continues for half an hour before some clear water comes. Why don’t the authorities locate the points that are near the sewerage lines and get them removed or shifted to places where it doesn’t get contaminated,” he said.

Rajesh Sharma, an MC official who visited the area, said, “We are here since morning. We used a small camera to locate the blockage point. We have located the problem. We saw bricks and blocks in the sewerage lines and are trying to get these removed.”

“Hopefully, the problem would be solved by the evening and clean water would be available for residents,” he said.
