Deputy CM reviews progress of ongoing projects

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal took stock of the undergoing development works, including bus rapid transit system (BRTS), Urban Haat and other projects here today.

He was accompanied by Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur. He also paid obeisance at the Golden Temple. They reviewed the BRTS project being developed at a cost of Rs 500 crore in the city.

Sukhbir said Amritsar would get a total facelift in the coming months and by the end of December next year it will emerge as cleanest city in the country. He asserted that within two to three months the city would witness an unprecedented change in its infrastructure. Amritsar would be free from chaos and traffic jams, besides having wide roads Badal said while adding that a majority of ongoing development works would be completed by the mid of next year.

He also reviewed the progress of the BRTS and the under construction entrance gate of Amritsar. He said the work on the BRTS project was going on at full swing and the contractor had been asked to complete the work by mid 2016. The authorities apprised the Deputy CM about the work on entrance gate, which was in advanced stage of completion and would be dedicated to the people with heritage look by February next year.

While reviewing the ongoing work of Hall Gate to the Golden Temple, Badal also visited Town Hall, Fountain Chowk, Bhandari Bridge, BRTS site near Sadar Chowk. While visiting Urban Haat he said the work here would be completed by April next year and it would showcase the unique food culture as well as handicrafts of the holy city along different means of entertainment of common masses. He said best establishments would be invited for to run their ventures Urban Haat in front of Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

Badal was flanked by Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat, Municipal Corporation Pardeep Sabharwal and other officials of development projects concerned. The Deputy CM also issued directions to all the authorities to complete projects within stipulated time frame, besides maintaining the quality and perfection.

He also reviewed sewerage and water supply project being executed at a cost of Rs 203 crore at Sultanwind village. The project will extend benefits of civic amenities to Sultanwind village, Daburji, Kot Mit Singh, Khalsa Nagar and adjacent localities of the area.
