Newspapers, periodicals, booklets, books and manuscripts along with other documents lying at the residence of Bhai Vir Singh here are all set to be digitised in the coming months.

Spread over four acres, the house has preserved most of his belongings, writings, pristine newspapers in form of Bhai Vir Singh museum-cum-library. At present, the house is being managed by a local committee on behalf of New Delhi-based Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan. A digital library shall be constructed at the residence.

All important papers of the era, such as Khalsa Samachar, Khalsa Advocate, Akali Patrika, Khalsa Akhbar and Khalsa Darbar will be digitlised as per the plan of the authorities of Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan, New Delhi.

The library is being constructed with the aid given by the MP land fund of Rajya Sabha member KTS Tulsi.

Dr Joginder Singh, Director, Bhai Vir Singh Niwas Asthan, said, “The library shall have LED screens and the digitized version being displayed on them. We are collecting them and it shall take about six months to come with everything.”

Besides this, the residence is also open for residence to visit the variety of roses and flowers. Over a thousand flowers are being planted at the residence. As per the ritual, two bouquets of flowers are being sent to the Golden Temple daily from the garden of Bhai Vir Singh residence.

“The residents can visit us to have a look at the beautiful and variety of roses, added Singh.

Born on December 5, 1872, Bhai Vir Singh was a legendary poet and scholar whose writings were instrumental in the revival of the Punjabi literary tradition. He had breathed his last on June 10, 1957 in the city.
