Amritsar, April 20

Sixteen-year-old Pulkit, a student of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mall road, has made the city proud by being a part of an educational tour to Japan, under the Japan–Asia Youth Exchange programme, also known as Sakura Exchange programme in science, from April 8 to 14 . She was the only student from the city to visit the country.

As per arrangement, the Central Government asks for names of students scoring above 90% in the science stream from the government schools. The candidates are selected after a complete scrutiny of their records. This year, a total of 30 students from across the country were selected.

“I was not expecting this. I feel so empowered.” said Pulkit, a Class XII student. In the exchange programme, professors from National Universities of Japan took classes of the Indian group.

“We visited different universities in Tokyo. It was wonderful. After attending the lectures, I noticed the difference between way of teaching there and here. The focus is more on practical training in Japan,” she said.

“We had sent a number of names and her name was picked. It is a matter of pride that she represented our city,” said Sudeep Kaur, District Science Supervisor.

“She is a bright child. She will also be presenting a detail presentation of her tour to other students in a special school function,” added Mandeep Kaur, Principal, Government Girls Senior Secondary School.
