Former councillor, son and his relatives among others were booked for allegedly attacking around five persons over a property dispute in the Putlighar Chowk area here today. The attackers even did not spare the police party which was present on the spot.
A constable, Rajesh Kumar, suffered serious head injury after he was hit with a brick thrown by the accused who fled the spot after the incident. Rajesh is put on a ventilator and fighting for his life at a private hospital.
A doctor attending him said his condition was serious and a surgery was being performed on him.
The SHO Cantonment, along with a police party, reached the spot and started investigations. Sushil Kumar, SHO, said raids were on to arrest the culprits.
He said a case had been registered on the charges of attempt to murder (Section 307, IPC), disrupting a government servant from discharging his duty (Section 353, IPC), besides other relevant sections of the IPC against former councillor Surinder Chaudhry, his son Pawan, relatives Bobby and Raju, besides their other unidentified supporters.
He said a case was registered on the statement of duty officer ASI Balbir Singh. He said both parties had approached the police a couple of days ago regarding the property dispute. However, Chaudhry could not produce any documents to support his claim while the opposite party had all documents regarding the registry of the property with them.
Today, on the request of Karaj Singh, the owner of the property, a duty officer and a PCR team was deputed at the spot. The owner along with others were erecting a gate at the property located in the Putlighar Chowk area.
Karaj Singh, a resident of Kiran Colony, said he had all documents of the property. He alleged when he was getting the gates of the property erected, Chaudhary, his son and relatives and around 40 supporters arrived on the spot and entered in a brawl. They pelted stones and bricks at them that left two policemen injured. He alleged the accused also fired at them. He demanded registration of a case against the culprits and their immediate arrest. Sushil Kumar, however, said the instance of firing was yet to be confirmed.
