The three month long exhibition of the Shesh Lekha series of paintings by acclaimed artist Paresh maity at Hyatt came to an end on Saturday evening. The 15 paintings inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s “Shesh Lekha”, also known as the “Last Writings”, were put on display for the public through a travelling exhibition divided into several cities, including Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore.

The series was presented in collaboration with Stellar International Art Foundation. “The paintings were received well by the visitors and guests, expecially, the NRI and foreigner guests, who wanted to know about Indian contemprory art,” said Ranjit Dhar, manager, marketing, PR and events, Hyatt, Amritsar.

The works took five years to complete and the process is described as the most difficult by the artist himself. “It was tough task. Most of these works are about an endless journey as when Tagore wrote the poems, he was on his death bed. So, the paintings had to reflect on Tagore’s thought process,” shared Maity.

The series was premiered at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi in 2011. The paintings were in city for display purpose only.
