A team of officials, led by Deepti Uppal, Chief Executive Officer, Amritsar, Smart City Mission, visited several locations to examine the feasibility to start various development projects in the city today. Om Parkash Soni, MLA (Central) and Deputy Mayor Younis accompanied the officials.

The public representatives discussed issues of traffic congestion due to haphazard parking and other issues.

The proposed multi-level car parking lots at Kairon Market, Fish Market and other places were discussed upon. Once operational, it will help ease the traffic congestion in the area. The MLA suggested to co-opt development of commercial space and restroom facilities for local market users and tourists frequenting the market.

The issues of debris and dump, electricity transformers and other utilities along the parks were some encumbrances observed by the MLA. The team visited Shakti Nagar Chowk Park, Majit Mandi Park and Shakti Nagar Park. Soni suggested to the Smart City team to look into these aspects and provide good experience to the local users, children and senior citizens with good infrastructure within the parks. The team has planned to establish open air gymnasium and playing equipment at Shakti Nagar Park.

Additionally, the park opposite Beri Gate was incorporated to be improved under fast-tracked priority project.

The team has been preparing detailed mapping of the entire walled city to find lasting solutions to the problems afflicting walled city residents. The mapping will undertake detailed topographic, geotechnical, utility and survey within the heritage areas and the walled city under Area Based Development, Smart Cities Mission, Soni added.
