The couple, who stole gold bangles from a jewellery store at the Mall road two days ago, has been arrested, finally.

The accused — Rajiv Kumar of Bada Haripura and Sania of Dashmesh Nagar, Tarn Taran road, were identified with the help of a CCTV footage.

Shivdarshan Singh, Station House Officer, Civil Lines police station, while briefing mediapersons on Wednesday, said the accused had stolen two gold bangles weighing over 35 gm worth Rs 1.33 lakh from the showroom. The police also recovered a stolen mobile phone from their possession. He said the duo had tried to steal gold jewellery in a similar fashion from Chandigarh but they were nabbed and later handed over to the police. They had come out on bail. He said they had committed around a dozen similar crimes in various districts.

According to the SHO, the accused were produced in the court and brought on police remand for further interrogation.
