Amritsar: A ghazal darbar was orgainsed at Kartar Singh Dugal Auditorium of Virsa Vihar on Sunday evening. Dr Seema Grewal hosted the programme. Several renowned ghazal artistes performed at the event. Kewal Dhaliwal, president of Virsa Vihar Society, appreciated the initiative of  Sohal Group of Arts and Swapan Ranu for arranging the ghazal darbar. A large audience attended the programme. TNS

Man nabbed with gold at airport

Amritsar: An Indian immigrant returning from Dubai was nabbed with 444.5 gm gold worth over Rs 12,89,050 from Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport here on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Abhishek Arora, a resident of Amritsar. The officials of Air Intelligence Unit nabbed Abhishek when he alighted at the Amritsar airport from a Spicejet flight. Air Intelligence Unit officials said the accused was wearing a gold kara on his left ankle. Further investigations into the case are on. TNS

Unidentified body found

Amritsar: An unidentified person, estimated to be in his fifties, was found dead in a pit near a dhaba located on the GT road here on Sunday. The deceased was naked and had injury marks on his face, arms and stomach. During the preliminary probe, it appeared that he was killed somewhere else and later his body was dumped here. The police have registered a case under Section 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC while the body has been kept at the mortuary for 72 hours for identification. Verka SHO Rajesh Kumar said someone informed the control room about the body. He, along with a police party, reached the spot. The deceased was wearing a blue coloured turban. “We have circulated the message and investigating if anyone has filed a missing report in Amritsar or in adjoining districts,” he said. After his identification, the investigation would take further course, Kumar added. TNS

Man arrested with intoxicants

Amritsar: The Ramdass police have arrested Kulwinder Singh alias Kinder, son of Kala Singh of Dalla Rajputa village for allegedly possessing 1,800 intoxicant tablets. Kirandeep Singh, investigating officer, said the accused was a drug addict who used to sell the same in the village and nearby areas. He procured the intoxicants from some unidentified persons at the Dhussi Bandh of the village. A case under Sections 21, 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him. TNS
