Girl commits suicide; FIR lodged against 3

Amritsar, April 20

A 22-year-old girl, identified as Ramandeep Kaur, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence at Loharaka Khurd village on Wednesday evening.

A case was registered against three persons, including her brother’s mother-in-law, for abetment of suicide. The accused have been identified as Bholi, mother-in-law of her brother Lovepreet Singh, her son Hardeep Singh and Joginder Singh of Muradpura village.

Her mother Baljit Kaur said she along with her son Dharampreet Singh was out for some work on Wednesday evening. When she returned home at around 10 pm, she found her daughter Ramandeep Kaur hanging. She alleged that her son Lovepreet Singh’s in-laws used to tease her by pointing a finger at her character. Perturbed over this, the victim ended her life.

A case under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC has been registered and further investigation was under way. No arrest has been made so far.
