GMC gets advanced machines

Government Medical College today received equipment, including radiodiagnosis and 3D-4D X-ray machines, donated by Samsung. The cost of the machines is Rs 3 crore.

Dr Ramesh Kumar, head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis at the hospital, said, “Besides the PGI in Chandigarh, no government or medical institute has such advanced machines. As per the specifications to install these machines, a portion has been prepared at the hospital. The machines would provide better imaging of ultrasound and X ray, which will prove to be a boon for the patients as well as the physicians.”

He said the talks for donating machines with a private company were initiated by former Medical Superintendent Dr Ram Sarup Sharma.

A team of company’s representatives had visited the hospital last year to assess its performance before donating the machines.

College principal Dr Tejbir Singh said the company had also agreed for the repair and maintenance of the machines for five years.

Dr HS Sohal, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said, “The company will also providing other equipments required for operating the machines such as UPS, stabilisers and four air-conditioners. The new machines will help the hospital provide costly tests to poor patients at affordable costs.”
