Govt will bear expenses of victims’ treatment: Sidhu

AMRITSAR: Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today met the victims who were injured in the explosion of a hydrogen cylinder in the Kale Ghanupur area here yesterday.

Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today met the victims who were injured in the explosion of a hydrogen cylinder in the Kale Ghanupur area here yesterday. He was accompanied by local MLA Rajkumar Verka and Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu.

While expressing his shock and grief, he said the Punjab government would bear all expenses of their treatment and would provide artificial limbs to those who lost their legs in the explosion. He said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had also expressed solidarity with the victims and their family members. He assured them of all possible help.

Sidhu visited a private hospital where critically injured patients were admitted. Among those admitted include Satnam Singh, who was selling balloons on his moped. His lower limbs were blown away in the incident. The minister also interacted with victims’ family members

Meanwhile, the SGPC today announced a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 to the seriously injured and lesser injured, respectively.

In a statement issued here, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal expressed his grief and shock over the incident.
