Amritsar: A motorcycle-borne youth snatched a girl’s handbag in Ranjit Avenue on Tuesday. The purse contained Rs 6,000 and a mobile phone, she said. In her complaint to the Civil Lines police, Mamta Rani stated that she was returning to her paying guest (PG) accommodation from the market when she was targeted.

House burgled

Thieves struck at a house and decamped with cash and valuables here yesterday.  In his complaint to Division B police, the owner of the house stated that he was out of station on Monday. He got call from his neighbours that the locks of his house were broken. Rs 50,000, a gold chain, a laptop and other valuables have been stolen stolen. ASI Avtar Singh said a case had been registered. TNS

Seminar on trade on Aug 21

Amritsar: The local chapter of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) will organise a seminar on ‘opportunities for trade and investment’ in association with the Export Import Bank of India, popularly known as Exim Bank, on August 21. Ahmad Alfalahi, UAE Commercial Attaché to India, will be the key resource person. He is looking after the trade between India and the UAE. Senior officials from EXIM Bank, DGFT, Customs, ECGC Ltd have also been invited to join us during the session and address the participants. TNS 

Art camp held 

With a view to promote the rich culture of the holy city, the district administration organised an art camp — India at 70 — at Urban Haat on Tuesday. The programme saw participation by a number of schoolkids. A number of activities were conducted. Students from various educational institutions performed cultural events. Painting competition, slogan writing, collage, poster making and rangoli were held. Famous folk singer Gurmeet Bawa, Padam Shri Puran Chand Wadali, theatre personality Kewal Dhariwal among others were honoured. TNS 

Eight students set record 

Eight students of DAV International School have set international roller skating record. The students have made it to the International Book of Records. The Wheels Roller Skating Fun for Everyone organised a skating event near Imperial City, Loharka Road. The 26-hour skating marathon was successfully completed by students. TNS
