The city police today arrested a thief, Jagga, alias Khapa, who had fled from the police custody on April 18. The police has recovered Rs 45,000 from the accused, which he had robbed from a house at Bhangali village.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar, in charge of the Lawrence Road police post, stated that the police had laid a trap to arrest the accused.
“Jagga is a hardcore criminal and is already facing a case of rape and snatching. After escaping from police custody, the accused left the city and became active in the rural area. On April 21, he robbed a house in Bhangali village near Majitha. Our policemen were vigilant about his movement. Today he was coming to the city, when the police nabbed him”, said ASI Rakesh Kumar.
The police recovered Rs 45,000 from his possession. The accused fled from the police custody after pushing aside a head constable on April 18. The city police has booked head constable Harpal Singh, who was posted at the Lawrence Road police post for negligence while on duty.
“Head constable Harpal Singh, who was booked for negligence, made a serious effort to arrest the accused. We will recommend to senior police officers to give him some relief in the case”, said Rakesh Kumar.
