The district Health Department has issued notices to two factories manufacturing 'petha' and ice cream under unhygienic conditions besides collecting samples. The district health officer, Dr Shivkaran Singh Kahlon, said they had received a complaint about a factory manufacturing ‘petha’ in the Naraingarh locality.

He said when a Health Department team raided the factory premises, it found that workers were not taking any care about cleanliness or hygiene. Kahlon said similar conditions were also observed at an ice-cream factory in the area.

The department also inspected a bakery and a sweet shop in the area. Kahlon said 22 samples of various items were collected from these four premises.

“We have also asked the owners of the two factories to take measures to ensure hygienic conditions on their premises. We have also sent the samples to a food-testing laboratory and if anything irregular is detected, strict action will be taken,” said Kahlon. He added the department had on various occasions sealed the factory premises in cases where hygienic conditions were missing and the food products lacked quality.
