Hoshiarpur man booked for fraud

AMRITSAR: Tarsem Singh, son of Jawand Singh, a resident of Tanda, Hoshiarpur, was nabbed by the immigration authorities at Sri Guru Ram Dass ji International Airport.

Amritsar, October 31

Tarsem Singh, son of Jawand Singh, a resident of Tanda, Hoshiarpur, was nabbed by the immigration authorities at Sri Guru Ram Dass ji International Airport. He was later handed over to the airport police.

Satish Kumar, immigration officer, lodged a complaint with the police, stating that during checking, it was found that Tarsem Singh had gone to a foreign country in 2002 on someone else’s passport and therefore he was deported from Canada.

The airport police registered a case under Sections 420 and 120-B, IPC, against the culprit and he was sent to judicial remand.

Investigating officer Balwinder Singh said the incident came to light when he applied for permanent residence in Canada. However, as he had gone in an illegal manner on someone else’s passport, the Canadian immigration authorities deported him back to India. Tarsem said he was sent to Canada by a known person, Mintu, who originally belonged to Haryana. He said Mintu died in a mishap in Canada.

Balwinder Singh said the veracity of his claims was being ascertained. For the time being, he was booked on charges of cheating and fraud and had been sent to judicial remand at the Central Jail here. — TNS
