AMRITSAR:Several jail inmates thrashed another prisoner while he was sleeping in his barrack.

Several jail inmates thrashed another prisoner while he was sleeping in his barrack. They inflicted injuries on the victim, identified as Kuldip Singh, son of Mukha Singh, a resident of Pandar Patti. 

Following a complaint lodged by the jail authorities, the Gate Hakima police have booked five inmates, identified as Sanjiv Kumar, Gurdhiyan Singh, Ranjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh and undertrial Gurjinder Singh. 

A case under Section 323, IPC, and Section 42 of the Prisoners Act has been registered against them. It is learnt that the accused attacked Kuldip Singh on the intervening night of April 22-23. Kuldip Singh was sleeping in room number eight of barrack number six. The accused attacked him in a planned way by sharpening a spoon that was used as a weapon. Kuldip Singh fell unconscious on the ground. An alarm was sounded and he was taken to the hospital inside the jail. Old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the attack. 

Meanwhile, the jail staff confiscated  60 intoxicant tablets from an undertrial identified as Vishal Kumar alias Soni, son of Bishan Dyal of Chheharta. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him.
