In a jolt to the SAD-BJP alliance in Jandiala, the president of Municipal Council from SAD, Mamta Rani, shifted her allegiance to the Congress here on Sunday. With this, the Congress has a clear majority in the 15-member House.

In the elections held in 2015, the Congress had won only six seats. With Mamta Rani now joining the party, the Congress has now seven councillors. The party has support of two more councillors.

Mamta Rani along with her husband Amarjeet, a former councillor, and other supporters were honoured by MLA Sukjinder Singh Danny Bandala at an event. Speaking on the occasion, Mamta said she had decided to leave the SAD due to anti-people policies of the party.

Danny Bandala said a plan for the development of the township was being prepared. He said that a state-of-the-art sports stadium was being constructed in Jandiala. Initially, Rs 30 lakh has been released for the project.

He added that the infrastructure would be further upgraded as the sports minister had given his consent for the same. Bandala said large scale anomalies in the old-age pension schemes had been found.

A senior member of the House, Raj Kumar Malhotra, also former president of the council, said that soon the election for the post of vice-president would be conducted. With this, the Congress will have the overall control of the council.
