On the occasion of International Human Rights Day today, Khalra Mission Organisation has written to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to deliver justice in the violation of human rights like ‘fake police encounters’ and unclaimed dead bodies during the over decade long militancy in Punjab.

Addressing a joint press conference, Harmandeep Singh, Satwinder Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Parvin Kumar, Satwant Singh Manak and Punjab Human Rights Organisation’s Kirpal Singh Randhawa, appealed to the CJI to deliver justice in these cases. They said long time has lapsed after these incidents but the justice still remains elusive.

They said in case no cognisance was taken of their letter, they would be compelled to file a writ petition in the apex court. They demanded formation of an independent commission to inquire these inhuman cases in the state during that period.

They claimed that as many as 7,000 fake police encounters had taken place during that period and dead bodies of about 25,000 Sikh youths were either cremated as unclaimed or dumped into rivers.

A dismissed head constable Satwant Singh Manak rued that no hearing has taken place in the petition filed against 10 fake police encounters with the Supreme Court since 2014. He elaborated that there were names of 170 police officials in his petition.

Bibi Balwant Kaur claimed that his son Sukhdev Singh was beaten to death and was later shown as killed in an encounter.
