The School of Punjabi Studies of Guru Nanak Dev University organised Sardarni Balbir Kaur Brar Memorial Lecture on “Literature of Bhai Veer Singh” here today. A large number of students, researchers and teachers were present on the occasion.

Prof Jaswinder Singh from Punjabi University, Patiala, delivered the special lecture. Prof Paramjit Singh, dean, academic affairs, presided over the function. Dr Gurmeet Singh, head of the department, conducted the stage and presented a vote of thanks. While appreciating the work done by Bhai Veer Singh, Prof Jaswinder said his contribution in the field of Punjabi literature was unparallel. He said Bhai Veer Singh played an important role to bridge the modern and old Punjabi literature. He also gave the details of various aspects of literature of Bhai Veer Singh.

Meanwhile, Prof Paramjit Singh highlighted the work of Bhai Veer Singh’s novel “Sundri’ and “Baba Naud Singh”. He recommended that more work needs to be done on literature of Bhai Veer Singh.

Seminar discusses medicinal plant

Department of Biotechnology of BBK DAV College for Women organised a seminar on “Biotechnological interventions in Withania Somnifera”. Dr PK Pati, professor, Biotechnology Department, GNDU, was the keynote speaker on the occasion. While addressing students, he said withania somnifera was a medicinal plant. An on the spot collage and poster making contest was also held on the occasion. In collage making Navpreet and Sarabjeet won the first prize, Navkirat and Arshdeep second and Palakpreet bagged the third prize. In poster making Dipanwita and Ishani won the first prize, Akarshita and Simran second, and Supriya and Shirsha got the third prize.
