AMRITSAR: The body of fire officer Rajinder Sharma, who died in Ludhiana while controlling fire in a factory that later collapsed, was cremated here today.

The body of fire officer Rajinder Sharma, who died in Ludhiana while controlling fire in a factory that later collapsed, was cremated here today.

The family of Rajinder Sharma resides in the Mohni Park area while he was posted in Ludhiana. A large number of area residents, including relatives and social workers, participated in the cremation ceremony.

Officials and staff members of the Fire Department were also present on the occasion. Earlier, Rajinder was deputed in the city. He was transferred to Ludhiana a few years ago.

Sadiq Masih, senior fire official, said, “The death of our fire officials in Ludhiana is great grief to our department. We used to raise the demands for safety equipment and social security schemes. The government should show some concern for the demands of fire department employees.”

As many as 13 persons were killed and several injured in the fire incident.
