Malik’s no to Chinese bicycles

AMRITSAR: To give a new lease of life to the struggling cycle industry, the Union Government has decided to prefer Indian bicycles over Chinese for the public bicycle sharing (PBS) programme designed for 99 cities selected to be upgraded as part of the Smart City Mission.

To give a new lease of life to the struggling cycle industry, the Union Government has decided to prefer Indian bicycles over Chinese for the public bicycle sharing (PBS) programme designed for 99 cities selected to be upgraded as part of the Smart City Mission. This was stated by state BJP chief Shwait Malik.

Around four crore bicycles will be procured.

Being a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Micro and Small Scale Industries, Malik took along a delegation of prominent manufacturers to apprise Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri that how China was trying to sell its defective bicycles in India.

Malik said the minister issued directions to the chief secretaries of the states to prefer Indian bicycles. — TNS
